"Mr. Aschl, we have an exciting position for you in Düsseldorf."
A couple of months later - I’ve been stationed in Düsseldorf for three months now - I can state with a clear conscience that yes, this position abroad has definitely offered me an exciting and informative opportunity.
So how did it come about? As a Kapsch Group trainee, I very quickly realized that I would like to complete my second trainee stint within the Public Transport business unit at Kapsch CarrierCom. I found the prospect of being part of a young, dynamic team and working in a relatively new business field that is in constant motion particularly attractive. When the Belgium company Prodata Mobility Systems , a provider of technology for public transport operators, was acquired in summer 2014, Germany also moved into focus in the company’s strategic considerations for its future orientation. Local Kapsch presence paired with Belgian know-how – a seemingly ideal combination, which was also the starting point for my time in Düsseldorf.
My responsibilities, which are based in the area of Business Development, are characterized by one thing above all others: Variety. Whether market research and analysis, initiating contacts, holding meetings with potential customers, collaborating on tenders or participating in conferences - no two days are alike.
Apart from this variety, which I appreciate very much, I will also take away many other positive impressions from my time in Düsseldorf. Whether the insight into how Kapsch functions in the overseas offices, or the knowledge of how I work outside my comfort zones.
I’ll leave Düsseldorf at the end of May – but I take a lot of exciting experiences, new friendships and a broader horizon with me.
