Startup Weekend Vienna 2009

Startup Weekend Vienna 2009

Young entrepreneurs were given 54 hours to develop their ideas and work toward their implementation with the support of experts, working space and many additional opportunities.

No Talk. All Action. This was the motto for this year’s Startup Weekend Vienna from 6-8 November 2009 at the Microsoft Innovation Center, and onestepahead was well represented both as a sponsor and with several participants from among the trainees.

After presenting the existing ideas on Friday, the teams formed and the roughly 80 participants got down to work. Until the early morning hours, they worked on ideas such as cloud computing, a crowdsourcing Web app, a new headphones brand, mobile semantics for devices, a calendar app, a Web app for e-tutoring, a film idea and an app for a Web portal for customised products.

On Saturday, the Startup teams took advantage of the opportunity to discuss their progress with experienced managers and entrepreneurs from various industries in order to obtain valuable additional input. Among these experts were Michael Brehm (StudiVZ founder), Cornelia Daniel (weisssee.com), Stefan Höffinger (Arthur D. Little), Karl Hitschmann and Gerhard Rasocha (business-design vienna and Kapsch Coaches) and Mike Borras (founder of tupalo).
Even an after-work yoga session was held to refresh the entrepreneurial energies and to submerge together into the world of meditation.

Some teams made their way into the heart of Vienna where the “Lange Nacht der Forschung” was taking place, seeking new inspirations and using the event for team-building.
On Sunday, the teams finally presented their concepts, plans and, in some cases, even the first prototypes.

The Startup Weekend Vienna ended just as it began – with magnificent entrepreneurial spirit and a host of ideas. We are already looking forward to the next events and hope to see some of the young entrepreneurs again – at a similar event or at their new companies.
